About us

Who is the Metroplex BMX Group?

Metroplex BMX Group is a Texas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to growing the sport of BMX racing across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and beyond. Also known as DeSoto BMX, we have been a driving force in BMX racing since 1996, providing exciting and competitive opportunities for riders of all ages and skill levels.

Our flagship track, DeSoto BMX, is located at the iconic BMX facility in Grimes Park, DeSoto, TX. ”America’s first covered facility built exclusively for BMX racing” This venue enables us to host events year-round, regardless of weather, from local races to national competitions. Some of our premier events have included the USA BMX Super Nationals, Gold Cup Finals, and the Texas State Championship Finals, attracting thousands of participants and spectators each year.

While DeSoto BMX has been a cornerstone of BMX racing in the Metroplex for decades, the sport itself in Dallas-Fort Worth dates back to the 1970s. For a deeper look into the sport’s history in the region, visit our History page.

Our Commitment
Our commitment is to grow the sport of BMX. We partner with USA BMX, parks and recreation departments, sports commissions, and convention and visitors bureaus to ensure the successful operation and expansion of BMX facilities. By working with city governments and tourism organizations, we will develop new tracks, enhance existing ones, and create accessible programs for riders of all ages.

These collaborations not only expand BMX opportunities but also boost local economies, attract tourism, and strengthen community engagement, bringing the excitement of BMX racing to more cities across the Metroplex and beyond. Through our programs and partnerships, we strive to expand BMX racing opportunities, develop new tracks, and position Dallas/Fort Worth as one of the most sought-after regions in the world for premier BMX tracks, facilities, and competition. By growing our infrastructure and attracting top-level events, we aim to make the Metroplex a global hub for BMX racing while cultivating the next generation of riders and champions.

Structure and Membership of the Board
The Board of Directors currently consists of seven members:

Four positions are reserved for and must be filled by individuals from the Ridership. Ridership is defined as all current USABMX members who belong to District TX-01 or designate DeSoto BMX as their Home Track and are 18 years of age or older. For families with riders under 18, one parent or guardian may represent the family. This ensures strong representation and active involvement from the district’s riders.

Three at-large positions may be filled by either individuals from the Ridership or by individuals from the broader community, opening up the Board to those who bring unique perspectives and valuable experiences from outside the BMX community.

This structure is designed to ensure that the Board not only reflects and represents USABMX District TX-01 membership but also benefits from diverse insights that can enhance the organization as a whole.

Board Meetings

Board meetings are held via video conference at 7:00 PM CST on the last Thursday of the third month of each quarter.
